Lovely historic place to visit. We dropped by after a visit to a local Tor and as dark fell told some local ghost and fairy stories. As we passed the grave, we were surprised to see fresh flowers. Someone made a comment that they were probably from the supermarket. Then our tyre suddenly popped! So we had to wait in the dark, possibly while haunted! and used “what3words” app to be saved by a local garage!

The grave of Ann 'Kitty' Jay. It is said that she hung herself (or walked into the water and drowned). The story changes depending on who you talk to. Because it was suicide, the parish did not allow her to be buried in any of the church grounds. Instead, they buried her at the crossroads to prevent her from haunting. No matter the time of year, there is always fresh flowers on her grave. Noone knows who lays them. At night, people have said they have seen a strange hooded figure kneeling by the grave.

The lonely grave of Kitty Jay said to have been a young unmarried housemaid who was betrayed by her lover. Who sadly had taken her own life.
On visiting her grave today we layed pink roses and left a token.

The story of Kitty Jay is a sad one but there are always fresh flowers on her grave to brighten it up and remember her and her baby. How they get there is one of the mysteries of the moor. You will find other strange things on the grave as well!
