Oakfield Wood in Wrabness is an idyllic and serene green woodland burial ground situated on the banks of the River Stour in North Essex. Its was created over 25 years ago to provide one of the county’s first alternative and natural green burial sites and ‘Woodland of Remembrance’, which is now maturing into a stunning and peaceful wildlife habitat. Mum's funeral service was conducted at the graveside. If ever there was a beautiful funeral, mum's was it. Buried there in 2002 the only thing we could hear was skylarks and the quiet of the day. After we were done we all made out way to Manningtree station for the wake.
We return to Wrabness often. Mum's tree is now a whopper and for sure her DNA is up there at the top. As time passes it's becoming a challenge to locate her resting spot which sort of adds to the visit!

My husband DAVID BATEMAN died 4/10/1998 rests here. He chose it while he was ill and was one of the first buried here. He overlooks the Stour. It was a field of clay with trees a year old at the most. It was still the most beautiful place on earth and where he wanted his body to lie for ever even though his soul is with me, his sons and now his 8 grandchildren. We were treated with such respect even though he died in Hackney. I will lie there one-day as well.
