A truly memorable visit to Highgate Cemetery
Visiting Highgate Cemetery, both the East and West sides, was an exceptional experience. I had been told that the tour would last around one hour and fifteen minutes, but it continued for almost two hours — and it was so fascinating that I did not even notice how quickly the time passed.

Tomb of Karl Marx is a powerful and historically significant monument set within the atmospheric grounds of Highgate Cemetery. The large bronze bust and the famous inscription, “Workers of all lands unite,” create a striking and thought-provoking place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the lasting impact of Marx’s ideas on world history

Yeah ok the guy is connoted to communism, the left in general and the class struggle.
Whatever you may think of the guy, there are very few people who has changed philosophy, economy and sociology at the same time. Quite an achievement.
The cemetery is not just that tomb. You should go on the west side and see.

I hadn't explored this side of Highgate cemetery before as the grandeur of the tombs on the other side grab the imagination more and take the limelight.
The tomb of Karl Marx is impressive and quite imposing but I'd encourage people to look beyond this and explore a little deeper.
While there are certainly very significant people buried here some of the smaller plots tell far more moving stories of tragedy and lives spent full happiness and love.
One particular plot built partly of Lego really effected me. .

I think it’s incredibly ironic that one has to pay to see Marx’s resting place, yet the British Museum (full of stolen artifacts) is free. I understand the preservation of the cemetery is expensive, but I don’t think the ticket price (£10 for adults just for admission, no tour) would be worth it. I was still able to get glimpses into the beautiful maze of graves by walking along the road.
