We visited on 24th December and it was still pretty busy, but so worth it. The sunset over Loch Shiel is incredible, and the view near Glenfinnan feels like a tiny bit of movie magic for any Harry Potter fan—this is officially a film location, after all. Getting there is easy: there are two big visitor car parks right off the A830, with a machine that accepts cash or card, so it’s no hassle to stop even on a busy day.

If you´re a Harry Potter fan you cannot miss this Loch!
Filming location of the scene when Harry flies on Buckpeak. It´s just like you´re there with them!

A vantage point providing a sweeping prospect of Loch Shiel's glacially formed expanse, stretching towards the distant mountains. The loch's role as a natural geographic barrier and historic transportation route is evident. The view encompasses the Glenfinnan Monument at the head of the loch, linking landscape to a key moment in Jacobite history.

Really great view of Loch Shiel. It’s the filming location of the Black Lake in Prisoners of Azkaban and many Harry Potter backdrops. It’s just a quick walk across from the Viaduct parking lot.

Views here are amazing. At quieter times the atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing, though it can get busy during the summer.
